This Young Musicians' Recital at the Guildford Institute featured a lovely performance by young, aspiring professional, violinist-to-be, Lara Caister. Approaching her 17th birthday, she is very much at the crucial development stage and I've been lucky to have seen her rapid growth in the past year or so. There were a few things I particularly liked about her playing. First, I thought her bow worked well into the strings to produce real good sounds, particularly the powerful lower register notes. There were some subtle moments that were breathtakingly beautiful too. I also felt her care with the details '“ I felt that she had diligently studied and examined not only the notes and chords being played, but also the bow usage and left hand shifts. Lara"s commitment and emotional involvement was eminent, which was wonderful to see at this young age.
Lara played with Alison Rhind, a fabulous accompanist. She is a lovely person too, who is committed to the education and coaching of young performers".
